Barcelona Said to Be Targeting Young Liverpool Midfielder

Reports from Spain claim that La Liga giants Barcelona have scouted young Liverpool midfielder Cameron Brannagan recently, ahead of a possible unexpected move for the teenager in an attempt to mould him into a future star.

Sport claim that Brannagan is one of 10 players being tracked by Luis Enrique’s side, the youngster sitting alongside big names like Paulo Dybala, Ousmane Dembele and Ajax teenager Riechedly Bazoer on the Catalan club’s hitlist.

The 19-year-old has appeared in a handful of games for the Reds’ first team this season after making his debut in a Europa League group match against Bordeaux back in September, under previous manager Brendan Rodgers.

While it was Rodgers who gave Brannagan his Liverpool debut, Jurgen Klopp is also said to be a big fan of the England Under-20 international. The youngster was given a new, improved contract within a fortnight of the German’s appointment at Anfield, and a first senior start followed just days later in the Capital One Cup.

Klopp spoke about Brannagan after the contract was signed, saying: “I saw enough (of Brannagan) that I can say congratulations to both sides for this new contract. He’s a great young guy. I like his style.”

He went on to say: “For his age he brings everything you need for a midfield player he wants to play football, he’s strong, he’s clear, he’s cool. It’s not easy for these guys to train for the first time with a new manager and think always ‘he’s going to make a final judgement’ or something like this. That’s not how I work but these guys don’t know this.”
