Man City Lose Out on Mexico Winger Hirving Lozano as He Signs 6-Year Deal With PSV Eindhoven

PSV Eindhoven have announced the capture of 21-year-old Mexican winger Hirving Lozano from Pachucha.

The player, now on Confederations Cup duty in Russia with his national side, was granted special dispensation to fly to the Netherlands to undergo talks with PSV this week.

Mexico boss Juan Carlos Osorio confirmed that the player did not travel to Sochi with the rest of the team, but would rejoin them on Tuesday, ahead of Wednesday’s match with New Zealand.

Lozano completed his medical on Monday, and will return to finalise the deal after Mexico’s Cup run.

A statement on PSV’s official website reads: “PSV and FC Pachuca have come to an agreement over the player of the Mexican national team. Lozano was allowed to visit the Netherlands for his medical examination, courtesy of the Mexican federation.

“The Mexican has agreed over a contract until the summer of 2023. When Lozano has returned from the Confederations Cup – which the winger now on duty with the Mexican national team – the agreement will be signed.

“After signing, he will, after a short break, join up for the qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League with the team.”

There had been reports that Manchester City signed Lozano, and would loan him out to PSV for two years before bringing him to the Etihad permanently.

The tweet translates to: “We were ahead @MiguelHerreraDT in the transmission that @ManCity bought @HirvingLozano70, but will be given two years to @PSV.”

City fans will be disappointed to miss out on Lozano, as the 21-year-old spent four seasons with his previous club, playing a prominent role in each and racking up an impressive 149 career appearances, scoring 43 goals in total.
