Leicester City’s man of the moment Riyad Mahrez told Sky Sports that scoring a hattrick against Swansea to win 3-0, thus taking his side top of the Premier League, made for a ‘perfect day’.
The Algerian winger was in lethal form as he put Swansea to the sword with his first ever hattrick, and is the first Algerian player to do so in the Premier League.
Mahrez feels it was a day where everything went according to plan.
“It was the perfect day,” Mahrez said.
“We won, we’re top of the league and I scored a hattrick to help the team to win so I’m happy and everything is good.
“It is my first ever hat-trick in my small career.”
Despite being two points clear at the top of the table, Mahrez doesn’t want Leicester to get ahead of themselves, and is more focused on securing the 40 point mark that normally guarantees safety from relegation. After flirting with the drop last season, Mahrez isn’t taking any chances this time around.
“Now we’re first but the most important thing is to have the 40-42 points and then after, maybe if we get those points then we can speak about something else,” Mahrez added.
“But at the moment we just want to have the 40 points and then after, we will see.”
As it stands, Leicester fans can dare to dream, with their fantastic season so far leading to aspirations of a European push. With only one defeat this season, the joint best in the league, they stand themselves in good stead to achieve just that.
Their next four games will be the ultimate test to see what Leicester are made of: with clashes against Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool and Man City to come.
